On this weeks episode of The Ban Hammer we discuss the hot topic of Free to Play MMO’s, SWTOR going free to play (briefly as we save the majority of it for next weeks TOROcast), and EA suing Zynga. Dedmon tells a story of Day Z on the server he and the others are playing on and The War Z’s website has been launched.

Twonk Hammer All kinds of S#!T

Good show guys!
About MMOs P2P, F2P or B2P.
GW2 is B2P, you buy the game and you are like everyone else, there is no “Premium/VIP” player, everyone is a GW2 player, you play 100% of the game, period.
RIFT/WoW are B2P games (buy the game and expansions), P2P (pay sub monthly) and kind of a F2P because there are microtransactions (mounts, pets/pokemons, etc).
SWTOR/LOTRO are MMOs that were P2P but “failed” (as sub based MMOs) so devs/owner companies make it F2P (Freemium style).
I think usually F2P games have Premium players (those who pay monthly), and that is why I don’t see GW2 as a F2P game. There is no such thing in GW2 (so far…).
About SWTOR F2P, if you plan to continue paying monthly nothing will change for you, if you don’t believe SWTOR is worth US$ 15 bucks a month just play casually for free.
Casual = don’t pay, and have fun with a few WZ/FP/story etc;
Hardcore = continue to pay and progress through your Ops as usual;
About the price… if anyone believes that the main problem with SWTOR is/was the US$ 15 bucks a month, you are completely out of your mind. The problem was that BW called it a MMO, but the guilds did not had a freaking Guild Bank at launch.
Here is the deal, as a BW game (lvl 1-49) the game is awesome, the leveling experience is 1000 times better then WoW (atleast IMO…).
As a MMO (lvl 50, end game) the game struggle, to say the least. There are a few FP/WZ/Ops and LOTs of Dailies… meh. Nothing Star Wars-ish, just Ever Quest features.
About F2P games having lots of a-holes, F2P will increase the number of a-holes yes… but will also increase the number of good players as well, it goes both ways and if there is a a-hole bothering us we can use the ignore list, problem “solved”.
I agree with Tom about we jumping into conclusions about SWTOR going F2P, so Samm, hold your nerd-rage a little bit next week… so the TOROCast fans dont kill you over and over again in BF3 (read: ME killing you over and over again in BF3!!!1!).
Why do you guys say there are no other games that are doing this? That’s the way LotRO does it. Tom is the only one that makes sense here. Samm shut up!
Epic story, Dedmon!
Caito, Tom corrected me, stop posting as you are listening to the show. Post when the show is done.
Nah. Posting real time is better. xD
“Because you (Torocast) guys are all fanboys anyway.”
Yes…..yes we are!
