DayZ to be a Standalone Game

DayZ is going standalone. In a blog post on his DayZ Dev Tumblr account, DayZ developer Dean Hall (aka Rocket) has stated DayZ will be developed as a stand alone game with Rocket himself as the lead developer.

DayZ will follow the “Minecraft Model” where players will be able to purchase DayZ for a heavily discounted price giving players access to the Alpha, Beta, and finally the release. Assuming if Bohemia Interactive follows the true “Minecraft Model” as the developement progresses through its phases, the price will increase.

According to the blog post, players currently playing DayZ who have already gone out to buy Arma II and playing DayZ as a mod will still continue to play with the Mod being updated in tandum with the development of the stand alone game.

You can now find more information on the DayZ game (not mod) at www.DayZGame.com, the mod will continue to reside at the present link. As a player of DayZ I am really hoping Rocket and company take a good look at its current game engine, as it has a lot of problems and needs to be worked on.
